IPL FOR HAIR REMOVAL AND SKIN REJUVINATION

The StarLux™ Pulsed Light and Laser Therapy offers an “intense pulsed light” (IPL) and Laser that delivers energy to target and treat permanent hair reduction, vascular and pigmented lesions. Treatment of common conditions include facial, neck, and chest telangiectasias or “broken capillaries” (such as those seen with Rosacea), tan or brown “sun spots” and sun damage on the face, neck, chest, arms, legs and “cherry angiomas” of the face and body.  It is also the Ageless treatment of choice for poikiloderma (red/brown mottled pigmentation from the sun on the sides of the neck). The StarLux can be used in combination with in-clinic treatments and corrective home care products to help reduce the dark pigmentation as is seen with Melasma.

A “photofacial” using the StarLux™ IPL is a non-abrasive and non-invasive rejuvenation of your skin using the remarkable technology of Intense Pulsed Light. IPL photofacials can significantly improve the signs of sun damage, along with the overall appearance of not only your face, but also help rejuvenate your hands and body.

The treatment

Your skin will be cleansed before the treatment. A cold tracking gel will be applied to your skin, and both you and your practitioner will wear eye protection. The IPL/Laser

hand-piece will be moved over your skin and there will be several pulses of light. During the pulses you will notice a flashing light, an audible tone, and a mild sensation on the skin. A special contact cooling hand piece keeps the temperature of the skin low to minimise discomfort. Some patients say the treatment feels warm and “prickly” at times.

The procedure can range between 20-30 minutes. Each patient’s treatment time can vary.

Immediately after treatment, you can expect your skin to feel like it is mildly sunburned. Sometimes minor swelling can occur as well. This usually lasts 2-24 hours, and can be diminished with soft gel ice packs. Sunspots/brown spots may darken after treatment and be naturally shed from the skin within 1-2 weeks. If redness is being treated, skin tone will be more normal, with less pronounced redness within a couple weeks after treatment.

You will require between 4-6 treatment sessions, scheduled about 4-6 weeks apart

What precautions do I need to take before and after my treatment?

Avoid the sun for 4-6 weeks before and after treatment. Patients who are actively tanning (natural sunlight) or are sunburned, will need to reschedule their treatment session. Additionally you cannot be treated if you have an artificial tan. Broad-spectrum UVA/UVB sunscreen SPF 50+ should be used after treatments. Post treatment guidelines will be provided following your treatment.

Most experience no adverse effects after the IPL/laser hair removal procedure. However, you may have some sensitivity and there are best practices to ensure the most effective results.

IPL/LASER HAIR REMOVAL AFTERCARE

  1. Avoid the sun for 7 days after the procedure
  2. Avoid topical sunless tanning products for 7 days
  3. If the skin is sensitive or irritated you may use over the counter pain relief such as Panadol
  4. If a blister appears contact the Clinic for direction, but in most cases you may apply an antiseptic ointment to the area until healed
  5. Avoid skin treatment for 2 weeks after the procedure
  6. Apply a 50+ sunscreen daily, reapplying every 2 hrs during sun exposure
  7. Gently exfoliate the area in the shower after 72 hrs
  8. Do not wax, pluck or otherwise remove the hair by force, shaving only is allowed
  9. Due to skin sensitivity avoid excess heat for 24-48 hrs such as hot showers, saunas, hot tubs, or heat packs
  10. Avoid make-up, deodorant, or active topical creams 48 hrs post treatments
